Dear BCCA Families,

We hope that you are all safe and healthy. As we navigate these uncertain times, we want to remain in contact and keep you fully updated. Yesterday, Mark Johnson, Superintendent of NC Public Schools, spoke with all school leaders during a School Closing Update call. During the call, his team reiterated and clarified the implications of Executive Order 117 stating that the North Carolina State Board of Education
unanimously adopted a resolution to support the implementation of school closures for students enacted in the Executive Order No. 117.

Specific clarification was given for what this means for school staff. The superintendents team stated that, although all in-person student interactions are to be discontinued for the next two weeks, school personnel are to prepare a plan for addressing the ongoing
learning needs of our students. The Executive Order does allow for teacher workdays. Over the coming days, the staff and I will be meeting in small-group, grade-level meetings to fully flesh out our plans for supporting ongoing learning. Last week we sent out a technology survey to all of our families and I have asked grade-level teachers to gather this information as well. If you have not responded to the survey or to your child’s teacher, please take a few minutes to do so now. This will allow us to appropriately plan instructional support. We are compiling learning packets for each grade level that will engage your student(s) over the next few days. We will communicate out pick-up times for
you to stop by on Wednesday to obtain these for your child(ren). In addition, remaining parent/teacher conferences will be moved to an electronic or telephone format.

Tomorrow, the BCCA Board of Directors will meet to review all recommendations and to make a final decision on Spring Break. We will communicate out all decisions that impact our school schedule or calendar and remote learning support. We will continue to actively monitor the recommendations of the CDC and the Health Department relative to our response to COVID-19. Our top priority is the safety
and well-being of our students, staff and their families. This this situation is fluid and subject to change
based on events as they unfold over the coming days. Thank you for your continued support of Bonnie Cone Classical Academy. We will send updates as they become available. Should you have any questions or concerns, please email us at jroman@bccaschools.org or lbusby@bccaschools.org.

Respectfully,
Joan Roman, Director

Dear BCCA Families,

We’re grateful to each of you for your support of one another in the BCCA community. We’re proud to serve you and your students in their educational
development.

We have been monitoring the recommendations of the CDC and the Health Department relative to our response to COVID-19. Our top priority is the safety and well-being of our students, staff and their families. Therefore, following last night’s vote by the Charlotte Mecklenburg School Board, we believe that it is in the best interest of our community to move up spring break. We will be open and operate on a regular schedule Monday, March 16, through Wednesday, March 18. Thursday, March 19 and Friday, March 20, will be teacher workdays, with no school for students. These days will be set aside for parent-teacher conferences.

Beginning Monday, March 23, through Friday March 27, we will be out on Spring Break pending Board approval. This mirrors the decisions made by the Charlotte Mecklenburg School Board. Any other adjustments to our calendar will be announced at a later date. Although we anticipate that school will resume after spring break on March 30th, we recognize that this situation is fluid and subject to change based on events as they unfold over the coming days.

Additional Updates:
· Effective immediately, we are cancelling all field trips. We are currently working on refunding families for field trips from this date forward. The full amount paid will be refunded.
· Our fever index, until further notice, is 99 degrees. We are finding that most cases of contagious illness, including flu, have a lower index from the beginning. For this reason, any child who has a fever of 99 degrees or higher will be sent home and must be fever free without medication for 24 hours.
· If your child is not feeling well, please keep him or her home.
· If you have a scheduled a parent teacher conference and anyone in your family is not feeling well, please reach out to your child’s teacher to reschedule your face-to-face conference as a telephone conference.

Thank you for your continued support of Bonnie Cone Classical Academy. We will send updates as they become available. Should you have any questions or concerns, please email us at: jroman@bccaschools.org or lbusby@bccaschools.org.

Respectfully,
Joan Roman, Director
